Welcome to my Zoicks.Com Creating Links Help Page

A special thanks goes to everyone's favorite Photos/HTML expert, Bob Bull (Bobal), who originally posted this helpful tip.

Creating Links

Links use the anchor tag, one to start it <a> and one to close it </a>
To prevent mistakes, be sure to copy & paste because it's very easy to err when typing a long URL.
All links will start with <a href=...> and will end with </a>

To create a clickable text link:

A link that opens in the same browser window:
<a href=http://www.zoicks.com/ebaylinks.htm>Click here</a> to see my eBay Tips.

It will look like this:
Click here to see my eBay Tips.

For a link that opens in a new browser window you need to add the TARGET attribute:
<a href=http://www.zoicks.com/ebaylinks.htm target=_blank>Click here</a> to see my eBay Tips open in a new window.

It will look like this:
Click here to see my eBay Tips open in a new window.

To make a picture a link:
<a href=http://Web Page URL>
<img src=http://Your Image URL border=0></a>

If you do not use the BORDER attribute of 0 your image will have a border around it.

Using the example above I'll use my signature gif to link to my eBay Tips:
<a href=http://www.zoicks.com/ebaylinks.htm>
<img src=http://www.zoicks.com/lesley-new.gif width=225 height=90 border=0></a>
Click on my signature above to see my eBay Tips.

It will look like this. When you click on it you will be directed to my eBay Tips page:

Click on my signature above to see my eBay Tips.

To make a link to your eMail address, you just need to start with <a href=mailto:
Then you add your eMail address and you have:
<a href=mailto:lesley@zoicks.com>
Then you add the clickable message that you want and the closing tag like this:
<a href=mailto:lesley@zoicks.com>eMail Me</a>

It will look like this in your auction:
eMail Me

If you want the Subject Field filled in, add this to your link:
?subject=Party-Tonight
You add it like this:
<a href=mailto:lesley@zoicks.com?subject=Party-Tonight>eMail Me</a>

It will look like this in your auction:
eMail Me

Thumbnails that Link to Enlarged Images

To make a link to a picture using a thumbnail copy of your picture:
Resize a copy of your picture to about 100 pixels wide so you will have two images, one full size and one thumbnail.
Using the full size picture URL first, the link would look like this:

<a href="http://www.zoicks.com/bailey9mo.jpg">
<img src="http://www.zoicks.com/bailey9motn.jpg" width="100" height="76" alt="Bailey!" border="0"></a><br>
<font size=1>Click here to see enlarged image</font>

This is the result of the code above:

Bailey!

You can use Jay's RanchoWeb Practice Board to test your links.
